The Napa Valley of Texas

Wineries and vineyards are fast becoming a familiar site in the Texas Hill Country. Texas is the fifth largest wine producing state in the nation, with 3,000 acres of fruit bearing vines. Five wineries existed in Texas in 1980. This number has soared to over 100 wineries to date.

The Texas Hill Country is a recognized American Viticulture Area and is the largest in the nation with 15,000 sq miles. [(information from Texas Tech University Research) note: this is a PDF link].
