Marble Falls
Lake Marble Falls, Lake LBJ, Horseshoe Bay are all accessible from the Marble Falls area. Known for its vast waterways and lakes, this area is referred to as the Highland Lakes.
Marble Falls is located 1.25 hours northwest of Austin -- 1.5 hrs north of San Antonio.
Marble Falls is in the Highland Lakes area of the Texas Hill Country.
I finally got out to Marble Falls and snapped some photos for the website. I've been out this way before and fell in love with the historic downtown portion of the town. Main Street is located west of Hwy 281.
Marble Falls Restaurants
We settled into lunch at Cecil & Company (307 Main Street Marble Falls, TX 78654). They launched on May 22, 2006 and the food is excellent! So much better than the "joint" they had occupying this wonderful courtyard real estate before. I had the freshest BLT with avocado ever with french fries, made from potatoes and yams. The kids had fish tacos and fish & fries. "The fish was very good," Emma assured me as she scarfed hers down.
Once you've finished your lunch or dinner at Cecil's, the courtyard shopping awaits. A magnificent, spreading tree provides oodles of shade for those who would rather sit than shop.
Lots o' cute shops are circled around the grassy oasis where the smaller kids can romp.
"It's All About Me," an upscale toddler store, offers hand-dipped Blue Bell ice cream in the back. You'll miss it if you aren't paying attention.
Leaving the courtyard will drop you onto Main Street where you can cruise up and down both side of the street for furniture, antiques, home accessories, and more.
I've never had a problem with parking. There's angled parking on both sides of Main as well as parking down the middle of the street. My son couldn't get over this original use of space.
There are a few restaurants on the water's edge of Lake Marble Falls (aka: Colorado River). You'll find the River City Grille on the west side of hwy 281 on the north side of the lake. I've never eaten there, so I can't give you the thumbs up or down. Let me know if you have feedback and I'll update the website and enter you to win a free myTexas Hill Country T-Shirt.
Marble Falls Lodging
Looking to spend the night? There's a quaint bed and breakfast less than a block off of Main. The Wallace Guest House (circa 1907, phone: 830.798.9808) sports the required white picket fence and is overcome with foliage.

As you leave Main Street and head north on hwy 281 you'll hit Java Bean on your left -- a great little coffee house to sit and relax during the day. If you see the Wal-Mart, you've gone to far. Marble Falls is belabored with car dealerships along the highway which detract from its small town charm, but they need an industry to support the town, and I guess car sales it is.
After leaving Marble Falls, heading north, keep an eye out for the Pottery Ranch. This will show up on your left side and frankly, I don't think you can miss it. Pull in if you're looking for large pots or Texas stars. I checked out the prices and they were really good! I got there at 5:05PM and they had closed at 5:00PM so I was forced to wander the outside lot and didn't get but a peak inside where they had cowboy/Texan furniture and home accessories.

Drive Times
Getting from one place to another takes time in the Hill Country. Texas is a big state and there's a lot of land to traverse. I've put together a drive time grid of how long it takes to get from one place to another.
Roadtrips through the Hill Country
The very thought of a roadtrip sparks energy in the air. As a college student, my best friend and I would stock the car with candy bars, sodas and enough clothing to last a week. We'd head off to Vegas or the mountains or sites yet unknown for an overnight.
