Restaurants
The Saltlick BBQ: is tucked away on FM1826. This place has a reputation for great BBQ and a friendly, rustic atmosphere. It's the place locals always bring their house guests because it always gets an "ooh and ahhh."
The setting is gorgeous, lush and grand. There's no air conditioning, but they do have windows that open and fans blowing. They don't serve liquor but you can bring your own. So cart in your cooler filled with beer or wine and have a party with their food and hospitality.
They do not accept credit cards or checks. Bring lots of cash. This place is not cheap. They do have an ATM machine on-site but it pings you with a hefty service fee.
Family style dinner is $15.95 per person, all you can eat. Kids 12 and under $4.95. They also have plated options. This is one of those places where you want to be good and hungry when you get there.
Drive Times
Getting from one place to another takes time in the Hill Country. Texas is a big state and there's a lot of land to traverse. I've put together a drive time grid of how long it takes to get from one place to another.
Roadtrips through the Hill Country
The very thought of a roadtrip sparks energy in the air. As a college student, my best friend and I would stock the car with candy bars, sodas and enough clothing to last a week. We'd head off to Vegas or the mountains or sites yet unknown for an overnight.
